So currently I'm running a Q6600 OC / nVidia 680i / 6GB Corsair XMS2. Now my GPU is a 8800GTX.
So far I run FFXIV fairly well with the following settings.
Mode - Fullscreen Resolution - 1680x1050 Multisampling - No AA Buffer - Resolution Shadow Detail - Low AO - Off Depth of Field - Off Texture Quality - Standard Texture Filtering - High Psyhics - On Extended Drawing - Off Dust Effects - Off [See no difference visually when they are on] Character Shadows - On
Now my question is for people who are a little more inclined with Specs. Would it be more beneficial to step up to a GTX 460 or 480 costing me between $300-$400 or would I be just as well off spending $150 to SLi my 8800's? I'd definitely rather spend the $150 if I will see that big of a difference in my performance for FFXIV. If I have to I'll shell out the extra to get the performance I'd like to see.

I'm just worried with my Q6600 I'll end up stepping up my GPU then running into bottlenecking issues with my CPU.
Next thing I know I need a better CPU which while also require buying a new MOBO and before I know it... BAM I spent 2k on rebuilding my PC. Which I don't want to do but if the problems start... I'll end up giving myself enough reasons to do it. [Sigh]

Found some info out that if I do SLi my 8800's it will be pretty much equal to one GTX460.
So I may end up purchasing a 460 this month and going 460 SLi next month. I was told that 2 460's in SLi wont bottleneck my CPU but with 2 480's I may start to see problems with it. So I think I will stick with the 460's as I'm pretty sure 460's in SLi will be more than enough to run most of everything in FFXIV short of 16xQ Multi-sampling which is not something I'm extremely worried about to begin with.
Last thing I need is for us to be in Endgame and have my CPU bottleneck and slam my frame rate to 5 FPS and die.

Yeah I ended up cancelling my order on my 460.
I'm building a new PC and donating my other to my younger brother so he can get in on some FFXIV action as well. Have my list made up, ended up browsing Newegg for most of the evening. Going to be a little costly but in the long run it will be worth it.

A 460 running ffxiv at 1920x1080 (or thereabouts) should be able to run it with pretty much everything on at 60 fps+ most of the time. Obviously that will drop in busy cities. Make sure if you do get one you get the 1gb version though as the 768 has less pipelines. The 2gb version is overkill, no games will use anywhere near that much unless running in absolutely ridiculous resolutions.
